CRH target Ash Grove Cement saying it is in discussions with a 3rd party about a competing non-binding offer of $3.8bn (vs CRH's $3.5b). CRH has until 20 Oct to respond (company news)

Ryanair Holdings (RYA.L) – Has promised its pilots significant improvements in pay and conditions, saying it would exceed rates paid by rivals and improve job security. Closing price 16.97c (Reuters)

Easy Jet PLC (EZJ.L) – Has seen a  record number of summer passengers, now on course to reach the upper end of its profit forecast this year. Profit expectations are forecast to be in the range of £405-£420m which came in at the higher end of the expected range of £380-£420m. Closing price 1284.00p (Reuters)

Rio-Tinto PLC (RIO.L) -  Is considering the sale of Europe’s biggest aluminum smelter. Speaking with potential buyers for the Dunkerque smelter in northern France, and annual production capacity at 270,00mts. The asset has drawn interest from financial investors such as private equity firms. Closing price 3676.00p (Bloomberg)

Standard Chartered (STAN.L) - Regulators in Europe and Asia are investigating the bank over the role staff may have played in transferring $1.4bn of private bank client assets from Guernsey to Singapore before new tax transparency rules were introduced. Closing price 778.40p (Bloomberg)
