Centamin (CEY.L), Fresnillo (FRES.L), Hochschild Mining (HOC.L), Randgold Resources (RRS.L) – The price of gold rallied 2.5% over night from the Federal Reserve’s decision to raise interest rates for the first time in 2017 and the third since the financial crisis thanks to a sell off in the US dollar. Closing prices 172.30p, 1453.00p, 268.20p, 6960.00p (Bloomberg)

Anglo American PLC (AAL.L) - Anil Agarwal plans to buy as much as £2bn of the company shares in the market after a merger proposal failed last year. Would equate to about 13% of Anglo’s stock, making Agarwal the second-largest shareholder, saying it was a family investment and he won’t make a takeover bid. Closing price 1194.50p (Bloomberg)

Sainsbury PLC (SBRY.L) – Said the impact of pressures on cost prices remains uncertain and saw its Q4 like for like retail sales ex-fuel fall by 0.5% missing estimates of a climb up 0.1%, Argos sales beat estimates. Closing price 271.40p (Bloomberg)

Vodafone Group Plc (VOD.L) - Is nearing an initial agreement to merge its Indian operations with Idea Cellular Ltd in a deal that would create the largest telecom company in one of the world’s most competitive markets, announcing a preliminary agreement as soon as this month, people with knowledge of the matter said. Closing price 205.20p (Bloomberg)
