Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open +11 points this morning at 7611.  The UK 100 look set to show modest gains on the open today, as traders prepare for US markets to open following the long weekend.  Asian shares were mixed on Tuesday as China’s official manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index for May came in at 49.6, an improvement over April’s 47.4 but still below the 50-point mark that separates growth from contraction.  The Shanghai Composite in China gained 0.75% nevertheless and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.97%.  Japan's Nikkei was trading 0.34% lower while South Korea’s Kospi lifted 0.52%.

Company News:

B&M European Value Retail this morning announced FY22 Preliminary Results.  Group revenues decreased by (2.7)% on prior year to £4,673m (or (2.4)% at constant currency1), but increased 22.5% on a two-year basis versus FY20.  Gross margin increased slightly year-on-year in the core B&M UK business, driven by strong performance across General Merchandise and a high sell-through rate on Seasonal ranges leading to limited markdown activity.  Group statutory profit before tax remained flat at £525m with statutory diluted earnings per share 42.1p (FY21: 42.7p).  Recommended final dividend6 of 11.5p per share (FY21: 13.0p), bringing the full year ordinary dividend to 16.5p per share (FY21: 17.3p) in addition to the £250m special dividend6 paid in January 2022.  The company also announced Alex Russo, currently CFO, announced as successor to Simon Arora as CEO.

 

 

Ferrexpo the world's third largest exporter of high-grade iron ore pellets to the global steel industry, with operations in central Ukraine, announces that the Group's Board of Directors has declared an interim dividend of 13.2 US cents per Ordinary Share in respect of the 2022 financial year.

 

 

GSK to acquire clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company Affinivax, Inc. GSK to pay $2.1 billion upfront and up to $1.2 billion in potential development milestones.

 

 

Pennon Group this morning delivered full year results to the city, in line with management expectations.  Underlying revenue was +22.9% with Bristol Water contributing £104.4 million, also announcing a Sector-leading dividend growth of 8.2% with full year dividend per share up to 38.53 pence per share.  However, there was a 3.3% decrease in profit before tax.

 

 

Unilever PLC today announces the appointment of Nelson Peltz as a Non-Executive Director of the company and as a member of its Compensation Committee.
