The UK 100 called to open +23 points at 7908. The UK 100 looks set to open higher again today, after setting new intraday highs yesterday, investors will be looking to see if these will again be tested? It was a mixed session in Asia today, the Nikkei index closed down 0.1%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 1.1%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was 1.2%. The S&P/ASX 200 in Sydney closed down 0.5%. On Wall Street yesterday, The Dow Jones closed 208 points lower or 0.6%, at 33,949, the Nasdaq slid 203 points or 1.7%, to 11,911 and the S&P lost 46 points or 1.1%, to 4,118. The small-cap focused Russell 2000 dropped 28 points, to 1,995.
AstraZeneca posted Q4 revenue just shy of analyst estimates, with slightly lower-than-expected sales of its best-selling oncology and rare blood disorder drugs. They reported an adjusted profit of 1.38 cents per share on sales of about $11.2bn.
Bellway reports H1 home completions of 5,695 flat on 5,694 YoY, with the selling price up 1.6% to £316,900. Their H1 reservation rate is down 32% amid weaker private demand. They have a forward order book of 5,108 homes, down from 6,628 YoY.
British American Tobacco are in talks to complete the sales of their Russian and Belarusian businesses in 2023. Their FY new categories revenue +37% to £2,813m as they announce a FY dividend per share of 230.9p. They see 2023 strong new category revenue growth with further improvement in category contribution alongside incremental investment.
Redrow have withdrawn their guidance for 2024, due to change in market conditions. They have maintained their interim dividend at 10p. They expect their 2023 revenue to be £2.05bn.
Unilever reported quarterly underlying sales growth above expectations, helped by higher prices for its detergents, soaps and packaged foods. They expect cost inflation to continue in 2023, forecasting net material inflation in the first half of around 1.5bn euros.
Watches of Switzerland Q3 revenue rises by 17% as their reiterate their FY guidance.
