Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -17 today at 7132.  A softer open is expected today on the UK blue chip index, following disappointing Outlook data in the US on Tuesday thanks to uncertainty provided by the delta varient of the corona virus It was a mixed session on Wall Street yesterday as traders returned after the labour day holiday, The Dow Jones fell by 269.09 points to close at 35,100.00. The S&P fell 0.3% to trade at 4,520.03. The Nasdaq was the stand out performer, however only rising 0.1% to 15,374.33, in the process it did however notch up a record close.

Biffa reports that their net revenue for the 5 months to Aug 21 is 12% higher than the same period in 2019. They state that H1 trading has reinforced FY expectations.
Dunelm posts a FY21 pretax profit of £157.8m (2020: £109.1m) and declares a special dividend of 65p for FY21. They expect their FY22 pretax profit to be modestly ahead of analyst expectations at the upper end.
Halfords updates that current trading performance has been strong, and they are positive for their prospects for FY22 and beyond.
Smiths Group are to sell Smiths medical to ICU Medical in a deal worth $2.4bn.
 
WM Morrisons begins talks around auction procedure for takeover as they note that neither Fortress nor CD&R offers are final.
