Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +30 points this morning at 5829. Trading in Asia overnight saw markets pull back as US - China tensions continued to rumble, in Japan the Nikkei closed half a percent lower at 23,089, while in Hong Kong the Hang Seng slid 0.67% to close the session at 24,530, it was in China however that we saw the biggest decline, the CSI 300 closed almost 2% lower on Monday at 4,678. During trading in the US on Friday The Dow Jones closed 159.42 points, or 0.6%, to 28,133.31, having bounced towards the end of the session, at one point the index was down more than 600 points at one point. The S&P also closed lower, for the S&P a fall of 0.81% to 3,426.96. The Nasdaq completed an all red day in the US as the tech heavy index slid 1.3%. Stocks did fluctuate during the session as they tried to recover from Thursdays significant drop, the Week ended up with all three of the major benchmark indices closing lower for the week as tech shares lead the declined.

 

Company News:

Associated British Foods said it expects full-year results at Primark to be at least at the top end of its previously guided range. They also said trading in their food business exceeded expectations in Q4, and forecasted a much improved, year-on-year profit performance in its sugar division.

Dechra Pharmaceuticals says trading in the first few weeks of the new financial year has been encouraging.

Hochschild Mining cuts its full-year annual production outlook today, as its operations were impacted by the coronoavirus and restrictions in Peru and Argentina. The company says it is targeting 2020 overall production of 280,000-290,000 gold equivalent ounces or 24-25 silver equivalent ounces.
