Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -35 points at 8,647. The UK 100 looks set to make a subdued start to trading today as focus will turn to todays non farm payroll data, due to be released at 1.30pm (GMT).

Stocks on Wall Street resumed their steep pullback yesterday as the latest concessions from the White House on President Donald Trump’s controversial tariff policies failed to calm rattled investors.  The Dow Jones slid 427.51 points lower, or 0.99%, to 42,579.08, after falling more than 600 points at session lows. The S&P tumbled 1.78% to 5,738.52. The Nasdaq dropped 2.61% to 18,069.26, officially closing in correction territory, which is when an index falls 10% from a recent high.

Just Group reported a 34% rise in annual operating profit on Friday, beating estimates, buoyed by strong demand for pension insurance.The UK's pension insurance sector has enjoyed a strong year as demand for bulk annuities - insurance for corporate defined benefit, or final salary, pension schemes - soared, with companies looking to shift their pension scheme risks to insurers.  Just Group, which specialises in annuities, also known as pensions that pay a fixed income for life, posted an underlying operating profit of £504 million ($649.91 million) for the year ended December 2024, up from the £377 million reported last year.  Analysts, on average, had expected £499 million, as per a company-compiled poll.
