The UK 100 called to open -10 points at 8,717. The UK 100 looks set to open slightly lower this morning, having yesterday breached the 8700 level for the first time. The rise followed the Bank of England cutting interest rates and signalled further cuts to come this year.
In the US the S&P climbed for a third straight session on Thursday as investors weighed the latest batch of corporate earnings. The broad market index added 0.36% to 6,083.57, while the Nasdaq rose 0.51% to 19,791.99. The Dow Jones, however, lost 125.65 points, or 0.28%, and closed at 44,747.63.
In focus today will be Non-Farm payrolls data out of the US at 13.30 GMT.
Legal and general this morning has announced the sale of its US protection business to Meiji Yasuda, and the creation of a long-term strategic partnership, for a valuation of $2.3bn.
