Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -18 points this morning at 7068.  A modestly lower open is expected this morning after the fireworks across global markets yesterday, however the UK 100 has now broken through the 7000 barrier.  In focus today, UK Prime Minister Liz Truss is set to deliver her keynote conference speech, and oil-producing nations meet to discuss their production strategy.  On Wall Street, the Dow Jones gained 825 points, or 2.8%, to 30,316, the S&P advanced 113 points, or 3.06%, to 3,791 and the Nasdaq soared 361 points, or 3.34%, to 11,176.

Company News:

Antofagasta have cut their 2023 output outlook and said that annual production would be at the lower end of its previous forecast after the collapse of a construction platform at its Los Pelambres plant in Chile.

 

 

GlaxoSmithKline announces positive results from their phase 2 trial of Jemperli in form of lung cancer.

 

 

HSBC are working with JP Morgan as the UK lender reviews its Canadian business for a potential sale.

 

 

Shell have said that exports from Nigeria's Forcados crude oil terminal (Shell's subsidiary) are expected to resume in the second half of October.

 

 

Tesco have forecast their FY core profit to be around the lower end of its previous guidance, saying there were significant uncertainties in the external environment. They now expect FY 2022-23 retail adjusted operating profit to be between £2.4-2.5bn. They were previously forecasting £2.4-2.6bn, down from the £2.65bn made in 2021-22.

 

 

Topps Tiles sees their FY adjusted profits to be towards the upper end of market expectations.
