Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open -25 points today at 7480.  A slight pullback is expected this morning following yesterdays rally to begin the trading year strongly, which saw the UK 100 hit fresh near two year highs, as well as briefly breaking through the 7500 barrier.  On Wall Street, the Dow Jones rose 214 points or 0.59% to close Tuesday’s session at 36,799.  The S&P 500 dipped slightly lower to 4,793 whilst the Nasdaq was the biggest loser, falling 1.33% to 15,622.  The small-cap Russell 2000 index meanwhile gained just over 1% to 2,268.  Stocks in Asia region fell on Wednesday as investors watched U.S. Treasury yields, which rose at the fastest new year pace in two decades.  China’s Shanghai Composite fell 1.00% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index declined 1.30%.  The Nikkei in Japan rose 0.10% while South Korea’s Kospi dipped 1.21%.
