Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +32 points today at 7137.  Calls for a positive open come as investors await this mornings PMI readings from both the UK & the US, which will give an indication how both economies are recovery from effects of the pandemic.  Positive sentiment also follows a positive session on Wall Street overnight, the Dow Jones closed 0.8% higher at 35,116 while the S&P climbed by 0.82% to trade at 4,423 and the Nasdaq completed an all green session for the major benchmarks, adding 0.55% to settle at 14,761.  It was a more mixed performance in Asia this morning, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 falling 0.21% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up by 1.23%.

Ferrexpo reports a H1 profit after tax of $661m +165% YoY.

Legal & General posted an above-forecast 14% rise in H1 operating profit due to strong performance across its insurance and asset management units, and said it saw continued strong growth. Operating profit came in at £1.08bn, compared with £999m forecast by analysts.
Rolls-Royce agrees to sell Bergen Engines business to Langley Holdings for 63m euros.
 
Ryanair update that they flew 9.3m passengers in July 2021, compared to 4.4m in July 2020.
Taylor Wimpey have forecast sustained demand in the medium term and returned to a HY profit as Britain's housing sector boom stands to outlast the tax holiday period. They have forecast 2021 operating profit of around £820m, above the top end of analysts' forecasts of £756-808m. Pretax profit for H1 came in at £287.5m (2020: £39.8m loss).
