Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +21 points this morning at 5957.  Asian shares rallied hard last night as a sustained recovery in the Chinese services sector was seen and the hope of further US stimulus. The Caixin PMI read, slipped to 54 from 54.1 in July, but remained above the key 50 level that separates monthly growth from contraction. During trading on Wednesday The Dow Jones rallied to close out the session 454.84 points higher, or 1.59%, to close at 29,100.50. The S&P also took part in the rally climbing 1.5% to 3,580.84. The Nasdaq also advanced 1% to 12,056.44. The Dow Jones posted its best rally since mid-July and closed less than 2% from an all time high.

Melrose reports that operating profit has plunged 90% to £56m in H1 2020, hurt by coronavirus-driven downturn in the aerospace and automotive sectors. Adjusted revenues of £4.36bn was 25.8% lower than last year.
