Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -15 points this morning at 6449. Calls for a negative open come as France’s President Macron threw a spanner into the Brexit trade negotiations by demanding tougher terms on the UK. Shares on the UK 100 were set to lose some of yesterday’s strong gains, partly due to concerns over the talks.  France is joined in its hawkishness by the Netherlands and Denmark, who have all claimed EU negotiator Michel Barnier has been too soft, particularly over fish quotas. Elsewhere yesterday on Wall Street saw a mixed day among the indices. The Dow Jones closed Wednesday around 60 points or 0.2% higher at 29,883 while the S&P 500 similarly rose 0.18% to end the session at 3,669.  At the same time, the Nasdaq dipped slightly to finish Wednesday at 12,349.  In Asia overnight, Japan’s Nikkei closed slightly higher trading at 26,809 whilst Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 0.7% at 26,723. The Shanghai Composite meanwhile closed 0.18% lower at 3,443.
