Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open +67 points today at 7533.   The UK 100 looks set to swing higher this morning after Friday’s 83-point decline.  Stocks were mostly higher in Asia this morning, mainland China and South Korean markets remained closed for the Lunar New Year eve, Japan’s Nikkei and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng indices however both gained more than 1%.  It was a bumper session on Wall Street Friday, The Dow Jones rose 564.69 points, or 1.7%, to 34,725.47. The blue-chip average posted its best day since Dec. 6 after being down more than 350 points at its lows. The S&P added 2.4% to close at 4,431.85 — its best session since June 2020. The Nasdaq rallied 3.1% to 13,770.57.  Overnight the cost of a barrel of crude breached $91 for the first time since 2014.

Evraz reports that their Q4 2021 crude steel output fell by 0.6% QoQ to 3.384m tonnes.

 

 

Pearson fully acquires 20% investee Credly for $200m in total value.

 

 

Purplebricks reports a H1 FY22 pretax loss of £12.9m v £4.3m profit in the prior year.

 

 

Ryanair reports a Q3 net loss of 96m euros, narrowing from a 321m euro loss YoY. Their Q3 passengers came in at 31.1m up from 8.1m YoY. They forecast their FY traffic numbers to be unchanged at just under 100m passengers, as they state that their FY22 net loss guidance is wider than normal range of 250-400m euros. Q4 traffic required price stimulation to recover load factors due to Omicron.

 

Vodafone have said they would work with Intel Corp and other silicon vendors on designing its own chip architecture to drive innovation and efficiency in nascent OpenRAN network technology.
