Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open +30 points this morning at 6496.  A higher open is expected this morning as traders look for a continuation of yesterdays positive sentiment to kick of February.  This positivity continued into the US session which saw an all green day Stateside, driven by investors looking beyond the fight between retail investors using Reddit and other forums and the hedge funds to focus instead on vaccine rollouts, which have been progressing well in the US.  The Dow Jones rose by 229 points or 0.8% to close at 30,211.9.  The broader S&P 500 index had an even stronger day with a 1.6% rise and the tech-fuelled Nasdaq Composite was best of the bunch with a sizable 2.55% gain.  In Asia overnight, signs of global economic recovery continued, In China, the Shanghai composite gained 0.59% while South Korea’s Kospi jumped 1.43%.  In Japan, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.97% and Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 closed 1.49% higher.  India’s Nifty 50 has now jumped more than 7% in two days after the country’s finance minister on Monday presented the country’s budget for the fiscal year that begins April 1 and ends March 31, 2022.
