Markets Overview:

 

 

The UK 100 is called to open -68 points today at 7100.  A sharp retrace is expected this morning for the UK’s blue chip index, having seen triple digit growth on Wednesday as the first confirmed case of the omicron variant was confirmed in the US.  On Wall Street yesterday early gains were quickly wiped out leading to an all red day, having been up almost 400 points at one point, the Dow Jones closed down 1.3% with falls of over 1% for the two other main indices.  In Asia this morning stocks were mixed, China’s Shanghai Composite slipped 0.07% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index rose 0.26%.  The Nikkei in Japan dipped 0.65% while South Korea’s Kospi surged 1.57%.

AJ Bell have appointed Peter Birch as their new CFO with effect from July 1st 2022. They report that their FY pretax profit rose 13% to £55.1m (2020: £48.6m) and declare a special dividend of 5p per share.
Aston Martin CFO Kenneth Gregor is to leave his role by end of June 2022.
GSK finds that antibody sotrovimab retains activity vs Omicron COVID variant.
Royal Dutch Shell commences up to $1.5bn in share buybacks.
Ryanair reports that their November passenger traffic increased to 10.2m vs 2m year before.
Wizz Air reports that November passenger numbers rose sharply to 2.2m from 456,487 YoY.
