Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +43 points today at 7075.  The UK bluechip index looks set to open August brighter this morning, as risk sentiment appears to have potentially swung after a difficult end to last week, if Asian markets are anything to go by.  In Japan the Nikkei 225 jumped 1.97% this morning, on mainland China markets recovered from an earlier slip, with the Shanghai composite up 1.5% and the Shenzhen component advancing 1.439%.  Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index was 0.92% higher.

Company News:

HSBC reports that their pretax profit more than doubled, beating expectations as the bank benefited from an economic rebound in Hong Kong and Britain. Pretax profit came in at $10.8bn, ahead of the average analyst expectations of $9.45bn. They will pay a dividend of 7 cents per share.
Meggitt: U.S industrial firm Parker-Hannifin has agreed to buy Meggitt in a deal worth £6.3bn.
Senior reports H1 profit of £22.3m (2020: £136.3m loss) as its end markets showed signs of recovery, encouraging the company to keep its annual outlook unchanged.
