Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -6 points at 7325; All eyes today will be on parliament following last nights vote, The House of Commons rejected Boris Johnson's motion for a snap election for a third time, but he hasn't given up. The PM will try to persuade Parliament once again today, this time using an easier legal route by proposing a one-line bill changing the date set in law for the next election to Dec. 12.  It was a green day stateside yesterday with all major equity markets closing in the green, the Dow Jones +0.5%, the S&P also +0.5% but lead forward by the Nasdaq +1% as earnings season continued to be fruitful for investors.  This positive sentiment continued through into Asian sessions, the Nikkei also adding 0.5%.  Oil prices pulled back slightly overnight to settle at $61.40.  Whilst gold retraced to $1492 from $1507.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

BP Q3 profit beat expectations but was down from the previous quarter hurt by weaker oil prices, lower production and one-off charges linked to large divestments. They posted a net income of $2.3bn ($1.73bn was expected) which was down from the $2.81bn posted in Q2. Quarterly dividend maintained at 8p per share.  

 

Plus 500 Q3 2019 results with revenue +10%, active customers +9%, new customer acquisition +18% and EBITDA +39%. Trading remains in line with current expectations for FY 2019.
