Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -12 points at 7312; In Focus today will be looking for further clarity on any Brexit extension, the EU moots extending Brexit deadline to Jan. 31.  The US closed the week with a green sweep on Friday lead higher by the Nasdaq closing the week by adding 0.7%, the Dow also added 0.57%.  Asian Sessions overnight saw the Nikkei adding 0.3%.  The Hang Seng added in excess of 200 points to close 0.83%.  In corporate news this morning HSBC's results will be in focus, with the banks profits falling.  Oil sits just shy of $62 a barrel. Gold held firm above $1500, currently trading at $1507.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Ferrexpo announce the appointment of acting CEO Chris Mawe as Kostyantin Zhevago steps down temporarily to resolve matters in Ukraine to do with one of the businesses he owned in 2015.

HSBC profits fell more than expected as protests in Hong Kong and the U.S.-China trade war undercut business performance. They have dropped their forecasts on return on tangible equity by more than 11% in 2020.
