Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 is called to open +20 points this morning at 7029.  A stronger start is expected this morning from the UK blue-chip index following a strong showing in the US yesterday on the back of stronger than expected jobs data, US unemployment benefit claimants plunged to their lowest levels since March 2020, pre pandemic. The Dow Jones climbed 142 points to 34,465 while the S&P closed in on another record high, rising 5 points to 4,201. In Asia this morning, the picture was similarly positive. Japan’s Nikkei gained 603 points to trade at 29,153 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was 184 points to the good at 29,297.
