Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +10 points this morning at 5805.  Calls for a positive open come on the back of a mixed trading session in Asia overnight on Tuesday, with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index down 0.8%, but Japan’s Nikkei 225 index only slipping by 0.1%. Yesterday stateside, the Dow Jones dropped 650 points, or 2.3% to end at 27,685, albeit above the session lows, while the S&P 500 fell 1.9%, and the tech-laden Nasdaq lost 1.6%.

 

 

Company News:

BP posts Q3 loss of $500m but says that FY organic capex is on track for revised target of around $12bn. They announced a dividend of 5.25 cents per share for the quarter.

BooHoo: T.Rowe Price Associates discloses 5.04% stake in Boohoo as of 22nd of Oct 2020.

EasyJet raises $399m from the sales and leaseback of nine aircraft to boost its pandemic-hit finances.

HSBC posted a 35% drop in quarterly profit, better than expected as higher loan loss provisions on the economic fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic were cushioned by the reining in of expenses.

Plus 500 reports that Q3 EBITDA is up 91% to $134.2m.

Rolls-Royce plans to temporarily close factories, reduce working hours and cut benefits as part of new cost-cutting measures.

St James Place reported record funds under management of £118.7bn, boosted by Q3 net inflows of £1.4bn. There has been an increase in demand for personal financial planning advice amid the challenging external environment provided by COVID-19.

Whitbread posts HY statutory loss before tax of £367.4m.
