Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -20 points this morning at 6635A softer open is expected in London today as investors await a set of earnings from US tech giants as well as the outcome of the first meeting of the Federal Reserve in 2021.  Stateside yesterday saw the Dow Jones close down 0.07% to trade at 30,937 while the S&P 500 dropped 0.15% to settle at 3,849 and the Nasdaq fell, albeit slightly 0.07% to close just shy of recent record highs at 13,626.  It was a brighter picture in Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei lead the gains, rising 0.31% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose by 0.09%.

3i Infrastructure reports a resilient portfolio performing in line with expectations.

 

Brewin Dolphin reported an 8% jump in total funds to a record £51.4bn in Q1, as markets recovered after mass COVID-19 vaccinations and government stimulus measures.

 

Fresnillo has forecast lower gold output for 2021, due to a land slip at its Noche Buena mine in Mexico. They reported producing 769.6 koz in FY production, down from 875.9 koz in the previous year.

 

Tullow Oil expects 2020 FY revenue to be $1.4bn and their gross profit to be $400m. Working interest oil production of 74,900 bopd, was in line with guidance. Their lenders have also agreed to extend talks about a reserve-based loan into February, adding they expect operating cash flow to reach $500m in 2021 if the oil price stays above $50 a barrel.
