Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +20 points this morning at 6410.  A quieter open is expected this morning, the US being closed today for Thanksgiving.  Overnight on Wall Street, the Dow Jones finished down 173 points or 0.58% at 29,872.  The S&P 500 marked its close at 3,629, down 0.16%, whilst the Nasdaq was up 0.48% ending the session at 12,094.  In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei was up 240 points or 0.91% trading at 26,537 whilst the Hang Seng moved 0.23% higher to 26,731. The Shanghai Composite was down a sliver at 3,360.

 

Company News:

Aviva expects to pay a total dividend for 2020 of 21p and increase it by the low to mid-single digits. They also cut their estimate of COVID-19 related claims in its general insurance business to £100m from £165m, as lower claims frequency in Q3 improved its overall performance.

Boohoo has appointed retired judge Brian Leveson to provide independent oversight of its programme to improve supply chain and business practices.

Britvic FY revenue fell 6.8% to £1.4bn, whilst profit after tax rose 16.9% to £94.6m. They confirmed a FY dividend of 21.6p, maintaining a 50% payout ratio.

Mitchells & Butlers reported it had swung to an annual loss and said it had to cut 1,300 jobs as it could no longer support them due to store closures and reduced levels of activity. Property valuation and impairment review has resulted in an overall decrease in its book value of £208m.

Severn Trent posts HY group underlying profit of £226m and confirmed an interim dividend of 40.63p, in line with policy confirmed at FY.

SSE renewables are to proceed with the first two phases of the Dogger Bank wind farm, costing around £6bn.

Unilever has agreed to buy SmartyPants Vitamins.
