UK 100 is called to open flat this morning at 7029. This follows a subdued session on Wall Street overnight, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average closing down 0.24% at 34,212 while the S&P 500 dropped 0.21% to 4,188 and the Nasdaq fell 0.03% to 13,657. However the picture was different in Asia this morning as investor fears over inflation seem to be easing, the reserve Bank of New Zealand announced it would maintain the current stimulatory monetary settings until its inflation and employment targets are met. In China The Shanghai Composite gained 0.22% while in Hong Kong, the Hang Seng index lifted 0.80%. In Japan, the Nikkei rose 0.36%.
British Land posted a third consecutive annual loss as the pandemic-related restrictions squeezed the valuation of its office and retail portfolios. They reported a FY loss after tax of £1.08bn, compared with a loss of £1.11bn a year earlier.
De La Rue reports that their pretax profit fell 73% to £9.9m (2020: £36.1m).
Marks & Spencer reported a slump in FY profit, reflecting a huge drop in clothing sales due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They reported a pretax profit of £50.3m (versus analysts' average forecast of £43m) down from the £403.1m made in 2019-20.
Mediclinic reported a 43% drop in FY earnings and an adjusted EPS of 14p (2020: EPS of 24p).
Softcat expects their FY results to top board expectations.
St James's Place says that their gross inflows in the 5 months to end-May are to be up by 23% YoY.
