Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open flat at 7328; In focus today will be the fall out from Boris Johnson calling for a snap election Dec. 12 to end the Brexit "nightmare." A motion to trigger an early poll will not be put before lawmakers until Monday, and it will require the support of two-thirds of Parliament to pass.  Stateside it was a mainly positive trading session, however sentiment was slightly dented as Amazon delivered weaker than expected results, once again results will be in focus today.  The Dow Closed -.11%; S&P +.19%; Nasdaq +.81%.  In Asia positive sentiment continued, the Nikkei closed +.17% & the Hang Seng -.31%.  With fresh trade talks boosting global equity markets.  Crude held firm above $61 to sit at $61.575.  Whilst Gold trades at $1505.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Barclays reported better than expected Q3 2019 profits (£1.8bn v £1.5bn expected) buoyed by strong trading performance in its investment bank, but warned of tougher times ahead as the global economy softens. PPI provisions of £1.4bn in the middle of the £1.2-1.6bn the bank had earlier forecast. They continue to target greater than 9% return on equity for 2019 and 10% for 2020 but warns the global environment had made achieving those goals more difficult.  

 

Glencore released a production update this morning; YoY production figures Copper -4%; Cobalt +21%; Zinc +3%; Lead +12%; Nickel -2%; Gold -20%; Silver -10%.
