UK 100 called to open +25 points at 7525; Having seen a pull back from Tuesdays highs yesterday, the UK Index has bounced during overnight trading having once again found support around 7500. We saw a recovery on the Dow Jones during trading yesterday, at one point having shelved 200+ points, ending the day down just 0.29%, all other major U.S bourses ended the day in the green, coupled with another all green session in Asia all could suggest positive sentiment heading into today’s trading session. Oil prices continued to sit between $63 and $65 per barrel (Crude) ending the day at $63.5. Gold also heals firm at $1425.
AstraZeneca 1H 2019 growth of +12% driven by sustained performance of new medicines. Announces an unchanged first interim dividend of $0.90 per share. The company has upgraded part of its financial guidance for the year.
Anglo American announces the approval of the Aquilla project to extend the life of its Grasstree mine hard coking coal operations in Queensland, Australia until 2028.
Anglo American also announces a share buyback of up to $1bn. It will begin immediately and will end 31st March 2020.
Diageo reports sales 1H 2019 +5.8%, operating profit +9.5% driven by organic growth. Approves plans for further return of capital up to £4.5bn to shareholders. Final dividend +5% to 68.57p per share.
Unilever announces sales 1H 2019 growth +3%, EPS +5%. The board expects sales growth for the full-year to be in the lower half of expectations (3-5% range).
