Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +40 points this morning at 6370.  Calls for a positive open today come on the back of the announcement yesterday that the UK is to exit current lockdown regulations later next week, also in focus today will be an expected announcement later in the day from Prime Minister Boris Johnson about the UK’s full plan for Christmas.  Markets will also likely be buoyed by Boris Johnson’s chief medical adviser’s backing for his pledge that life could start getting back to normal by Easter.  Yesterday saw The Dow Jones finish up almost 328 points or 1.1% at 29,591.27, while the S&P 500 added 0.6% and the Nasdaq Composite was nudged up 0.2%.  Asian markets are mixed on Tuesday, with the Nikkei up 2.5%, the Hang Seng up 0.1% but the Shanghai Composite down 0.4%.

 

Company News:

AA extends deal talks with Towerbrook, Warburg Pincus to a new deadline of 5pm on 25th November 2020.

AO World reported a 53.4% jump in H1 revenue and swung into a profit as consumers purchased more domestic appliances to help them get through the COVID-19 pandemic. Revenue was £717m (2019: £468m) and pretax profit was £18.3m (2019: £5.9m).

Compass Group reported a 75.5% slump in annual pretax profit, as the coronavirus crisis slashed the number of school pupils and office workers eating at its canteens and dinner halls over the past months. Pretax profit came in at £427m, compared with £1.74bn last year.

Greencore said it plans to raise cash by issuing new shares after reporting an 81% plunge in annual profit due to the COVID-19 crisis. Pricing, placing and subscription of 80,357,142 new shares will raise gross proceeds of £90m with a placing price of 112p.

JD Sports is in exclusive talks with British department store chain Debenhams over a potential rescue takeover.
