Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -13 points at 7917.  The UK 100 is expected to extend yesterday’s losses at the open after the minutes from the Federal Open Market Committee meeting signalled no let up in the Fed’s push to tame inflation suggesting more rate rises are to come.  A number of index heavyweights, including AstraZeneca, Barclays, Endeavour Mining, GSK, Land Securities, Standard Chartered, Unilever go ex-dividends, which will also weigh on the index reducing the FTSE 100 by 20.62 points.  US markets ended mixed with the Dow Jones down 85 points, or 0.3%, to 33,045, the Nasdaq gained 15 points, or 0.1%, to 11,507 and the S&P lost 6 points to end at 3,991.

Anglo American reports a FY adjusted EBITDA of $14,495m with a FY free cash flow of $1,585m.

 

 

BAE Systems posted a 9.5% rise in annual earnings and forecast more growth this year as military spend continues to rise on the eve of the first anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

 

 

GSK says ViiV has received positive findings from SOLAR study for Cabenuva as HIV therapy.

 

 

Hays agrees with CEO Alistair Cox that its time to start looking for a successor, as Cox will remain as CEO throughout selection process. They report a H1 pretax profit of £94m, down 4% YoY, with H1 net fees of £651.9m, up 15% YoY. They state that the new year ‘return to work’ has been encouraging overall as they expect higher profitability and conversion rate in H2.

 

 

Hikma Pharmaceuticals reports a FY22 operating profit of $136m, up from $104m YoY. They recommend a total dividend for FY22 of 56 cents per share, up from 54 cents per share YoY.

 

 

John Wood rejects a £1.6bn takeover approach by Apollo Global Management Inc.

 

 

Rolls-Royce beats expectations with a 57% rise in underlying profit to £652m for 2022, helped by a better performance in its Civil Aerospace and Power Systems.

 

 

WPP has forecast organic growth for 2023 of 3-5%, above analyst expectations, after new clients wins helped its 2022 sales to come in towards the top end of its target. They reported a 6.9% rise in L-f-L revenue less pass through costs, compared with a forecast range of 6.5-7%.
