Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open -10 points this morning at 6444.  Calls for a negative open come this morning as traders contended with yet more uncertainty on both sides of the Atlantic on the last full trading day before Christmas.     Yesterday during trading in the States, The Dow Jones closed down 0.67% at 30,015 while the S&P 500 fell 0.21% to 3,687. The Nasdaq was the index that bucked the trend by closing in the green, rising 0.51% to close at a record high of 12,807.  Asian markets were positive on Wednesday morning, with Japan’s Nikkei 225 up 0.33% while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng rose 0.52%.

 

 

Company News:

AstraZeneca have stated that their COVID-19 vaccine should be effective against the new coronavirus variant.

 

British Land has agreed to £401m worth of West End office sales.

 

Marston's are to operate 141 SA Brain & Co freehold pubs under Brains brand. This means that 1,300 pub employees are transferring to Marston's safeguarding jobs.

 

Sage Group has agreed to the disposal of businesses in Asia and Australia for around £95m.

 

Unilever have agreed to expand their partnership with Burger King to supply its plant-based meat patties for Whopper burgers at restaurants in Latin America, the Caribbean and China.
