UK Index called to open +8pts at 6835 as overnight Chinese PMI came in better than expected at 50.8, a seven-month high.

US markets continued the rally to finish the week higher, with the S&P 500 closing at another record high of 1,962pts a six day winning streak. The Dow is now within touching distance of 17,000pts, having hit record highs in the pre-market this morning of 16,995pts.

With China’s HSBC PMI coming in stronger than expected, Asian stocks continued to extend a six-week gain. Both the Nikkei and ASX leading regional markets higher, with the Hang Seng bucking the trend declining as much as 0.9%. With geopolitical tensions remaining high in Ukraine some traders continued to sit on the side.

In focus today we have a raft of macro-data from Europe, starting with French PMI at 8:00am followed by German PMI at 8:30am and Eurozone readings at 9:00am. On the equity front keep an eye on how miners react following PMI data.

CommoditiesBrent Crude near $115 holding near 9 month highs as fighting in Iraq intensified. Gold: The escalating violence in Iraq and geopolitical tensions also kept safe-haven gold well bid. Spot gold was little changed at $1,313.10 an ounce, not too far from a two-month high of $1,321.90 hit on Friday.

FX: AUD jumped towards 2014 highs on Monday and reached a session high after a report showed China's factory sector expanded in June for the first time in six months. $0.9431 vs USD.
