Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -22 points at 7570; This on the back of a positive trading session in Asia, that saw stocks drift near record highs.  The Nikkei closed at 23,821 (+5 points), while the Hang Seng closed at 27,855 (-15 points)  This follows the U.S closing out last week with fresh record highs, the Dow Jones closing at 28,455 (+78 points), the S&p 500 closing at 3,221 (+15 points) and the Nasdaq closing at 8.924 (+37 points).  Oil extended losses after the biggest decline in three weeks as Kuwait signalled a deal with Saudi Arabia to renew crude output along their border and as U.S. shale explorers increased drilling, Crude trades at $66.17 at time of writing.  Whilst gold found some positive momentum to trade up to $1484 at time of writing.

In corporate news this morning:

 

Anglo American announces that it has received the next phase of its operating licence for its Minas-Rio tailings facility in Brazil.

 

AstraZeneca today announced that budesonide/glycopyrronium/formoterol fumarate has been approved in China for the maintenance treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

 

AstraZeneca have also announced that the US FDA has approved Enhertu for the treatment of adult patients with unresectable or metastatic HER2-positive breast cancer who have received two or more prior anti-HER2 based regimens in the metastatic setting.

 

BHP announce that their CEO Andrew Mackenzie will retire on the 31st of March 2020. 

 

Cobham are to be acquired in a cash by US company Advent for $5bn after UK authorities approved the deal. 

 

GlaxoSmithKline subsidiary ViiV Healthcare received a complete response letter from the US Food and Drug Administration regarding its application for cabotegravir and rilpivirine long-acting regimen for treatment of HIV-1 infection. There have been no reported safety issues related to Chemistry Manufacturing and Controls.

 

Intu Properties announces the disposal of Intu Puerto Venecia shopping centre to Generali Shopping Centre Fund S.C.S. SICAV-SIF and Union Investment Real Estate GMBH for €475.3 million (intu share €237.7 million).  

NMC Health announce that they are to commence an independent, third party review of the business to reassure shareholders as they believe the current share price is not a fair reflection of the value of the company.
