Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open +7 points today at 7005. The UK 100 is called to open back through 7000 again this morning, recovering 150 points in the past two trading sessions.  In focus today will be the ECB interest rate decision.  Yesterday stateside saw positive sentiment continue, the Dow Jones rose by 286 points, 0.83%, to finish at 34,798. The S&P similarly gained 0.82% to close at 4,358 and the Nasdaq added 0.92% to close at 14,631. The small cap focussed Russell 2000 rallied further still, up 1.81% to 2,234.  In Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei added 0.58% to trade at 27,548.  Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was significantly stronger rising by 480 points or 1.77% to 27,706. The Shanghai Composite meanwhile edged up 0.3% to 3,573.

Company News:

AJ Bell reports that Q3 total customers were up 30% YoY and 6% QoQ to 368,033.
Britvic reports Q3 revenue of £348.8m, which is an increase of 22.8% YoY.
 
Centrica reports HY pretax profit of £907m (2020: £462m loss).
Countryside properties reports that Q3 2021 completions were up at 1,096 vs 449 YoY.
 
Diploma says strong Q3 performance is in line with expectations.
Hiscox announce that Aki Hussain will start as their new CEO in Jan 2022.
Howden Joinery "cautiously optimistic" of H2 outlook and anticipates peak trading period in H2.
Moneysupermarket.com reports that H1 pretax profit came in at £37m (2020: £51.4m) and they are confident of delivering market expectations for the year.
Morrison WM Supermarkets declares a 2p special dividend that is contingent on the Fortress deal completing.
Natwest: UK government confirms that they will sell up to 15% of their Natwest stake over the next 12 months. They currently hold a 54.7% stake in the company.
SSE continues to expect that capital expenditure and investment will total around £2bn in 2021/22.
Unilever reported higher-than-expected underlying sales for Q2 as consumers cooked more meals at home, but it reduced its FY operating margin forecast due to surging commodity costs. Underlying sales rose 5%, beating analysts' average forecast of 4.8%.
