Markets Overview:

UK 100 is called to open +1 points this morning at 7020.  Calls for a modestly higher gain today come as another turbulent week comes to an end. Wall Street last night snapped its three day losing streak with a positive finish, the Dow Jones climbed 188 points to 34,084 and the S&P 500 pushing forwards by 43 points to 4,159.  The positive sentiment spilled over this morning into Japan, where the Nikkei was up 0.7%. However, the Shanghai Composite in China fell 0.34% and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index slipped 0.03%.  In focus today could be economic data on retail sales, which have been recovering steadily since falling more than 8% in January. April’s figures is expected to come in higher, 4.5% on the month and a sizable 36.8% gain on last year.
