Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Antofagasta reported a 39% fall in FY profit, as high input costs, reduced copper grades and a drought in Chile hit its copper production. They reported a group EBITDA for 2022 of $2.9bn, compared with $4.84bn in 2021.

BHP report a H1 pretax profit of $10.18bn, down 30% YoY from $14.49bn.

HSBC reported a better-than-expected 92% surge in quarterly profit as rising interest rates swelled its net interest income. They intend to pay a special dividend of $0.21 per share, as a priority use of the proceeds from the $10bn sales of its Canada business, once that disposal is complete later this year. They have taken a $300m loss on the sale of their Russian business, which is on track to be completed in H1 2023.

IHG reported higher FY profit helped by strong occupancy demand during the holidays and higher room prices, as they intend to buyback shares to return an additional $750m in 2023. FY operating profit rose 55% to $828m, while revenue per available room in H2 exceeded pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Smith & Nephew sees FY adjusted revenue growth of 5-6%, with a FY operating profit of $450m.
