Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -100 points this morning at 6421.  A sharply lower open is expected today amid concerns over a prolonged winter lockdown aimed at protecting the population against a new super-strain of the coronavirus.  The problems look to have been compounded by a ban on travel to at least 10 countries in mainland Europe and a halt to cross-Channel freight transport.  Sentiment on Asia’s main markets overnight, meanwhile, was hit by a surge in Covid cases across the region with only Shanghai bucking the trend.
