Markets Overview:

UK 100 called positive +13 points This morning at 7133; Global markets have shown signs of stability this morning following yesterday afternoons sell off, this was caused in the main by a spike in the Pound against both the US Dollar and the Euro after Angela Merkel said that there needed to be a solution found for the Irish backstop. Stateside the Dow Jones bounced more than 100 points from overnight lows. Oil broke through $60 a barrel, what could this mean for the big oil constituents of the UK Index ? (BP & Shell) both of which have suffered recently.  Gold once again retraced back towards $1500, at time of writing sitting slightly above the key handle at $1502.

In corporate news this morning:

AstraZeneca announced that the combination of Imfinzi and tremelimumab for non-small cell lung cancer did not meet the primary endpoint of improving OS compared to SoC chemotherapy.

Hammerson announces the appointment of James Lenton as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director.

Inchcape announces that Gijsbert de Zoeten will join the Group as Chief Financial Officer 27/8/19 and will join the Board as an Executive Director and assume the full CFO role with effect from 1 September 2019.
