Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open -34 points this morning at 7250.  The UK 100 is expected to open sharply lower following further heavy falls in US and Asian markets overnight.  In the US, the Dow closed Wednesday down 280 points, 0.9%, at 31,511, the Nasdaq lost 67 points, 0.6%, to 11,816 and the S&P dropped 31 points, 0.8%, to 3,955.  The benchmarks spent time on both sides of the flatline but trended lower as the session went on and ultimately lost ground for the fourth consecutive day. For the month of August, the three major indices all fell more than 4%.

Barclays are to sell their remaining 7.4% stake in South African bank Absa, completing their exit from a more than 90-year presence on the continent.

 

 

GKP reiterates their FY production guidance of 44,000-47,000 bopd.

 

 

Jet2 are currently on track to achieve market expectations for FY23 profit as they state that winter 2022-23 forward bookings are "satisfactory".

Rio Tinto have reached an agreement to buy the remaining 49% of Canadian copper miner Turquoise Hill Resources for $3.3bn.
