Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -75 points today at 7010. The UK blue-chip index looks set for a sizeable fall this morning as concerns about the energy situation in China continue to weigh on global market  Asian markets were mostly lower on Friday, with shares in Japan leading losses.  The Nikkei 225 slumped 2.2% and South Korea’s Kospi fell 1.53%, markets i Hong Kong and China were closed for holidays.  It was also a tough session Stateside yesterday, the Dow Jones dropped 546.80 points, or 1.59%, to close at 33,843.92. The broader S&P was down 1.19% to 4,307.54, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq fell 0.4% to 14,448.58.

IQE has shut their Singapore site amid a global consolidation strategy by the company.

JD Wetherspoon reported a near doubling of its annual losses as sales were severely hit by COVID-19 restrictions earlier this year and said it has found it hard to attract staff in some areas of Britain. They reported a pretax loss of £194.6m for the 12 months ended July 25th (2020: £105.4m loss).

 

Sage Group will cut more than 800 jobs across the world as it trims its business to focus more on investments in cloud-based subscription products.
