Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +18 points at 7789.  The UK 100 is expected to open higher with investors eyeing the latest rate call from the Federal Reserve which is due after London closes, the first of three key interest rate decisions due this week.  This also comes on the back of a strong showing on Wall Street yesterday, the Dow closed up 387 points or 1.1% at 34,086, the Nasdaq added 191 points or 1.7% to end the session at 11,585 and the S&P improved 59 points or 1.5%, to trade at 4,077.

Anglo American says consumer diamond for jewellery over Christmas 2022 did well.

 

 

Entain have raised their annual profit forecast after they reported a 12% rise in quarterly online gaming revenue boosted by the football world cup. They now expect their core profit for the year to be between £985-995m, up from an earlier forecast of between £925-975m.

 

 

GlaxoSmithKline’s drug Benlysta has been granted orphan drug designation by the US FDA for the treatment of systemic sclerosis. They report a FY pretax profit of £5.63bn, up YoY from £3.6bn (excluding consumer healthcare arm). They expect their FY turnover to rise by 6-8% YoY and adjusted operating profit to rise 10-12%. They expect their FY23 adjusted EPS to rise between 12-15%.

 

 

Glencore report that their copper production fell 12% in 2022, as the miner struggled with geotechnical issues at its Katanga mine in Congo. They produced 1.06m tonnes of copper last year and kept its 2023 outlook unchanged.

 

 

Severn Trent say their CFO James Bowling is to retire in July 2023.

 

 

Virgin Money says UK customer lending improves 0.7% in Q1 as mortgages alone are up 0.4%.

 

 

Vodafone reported a slowdown in its group service revenue growth to 1.8% in Q3 from 2.5% in Q2, driven by declines in Germany, Italy and Spain.
