Markets Overview:

UK Index called to open -15 points at 7300; This comes on the back of the U.S Fed cutting interest rates by 0.25% (a 7-3 vote in favour) as widely expected, for the second time this year, interest rates have been cut amid concerns of slowing economic growth and Geo-political tensions, Donald Trump responded to this decision by stating the Fed had "No guts" the Dow Jones closed the day in the green by 36 points at 27147.  Also in focus today will be the oilies, after US EIA inventories showed a build in inventories of 1.1m barrels.  On this side of the pond Prime Minister Boris Johnson's lawyer told Britain's Supreme Court on Wednesday that it was not for judges to intervene over his decision to suspend parliament in the run-up to Brexit, the Supreme Court is deliberating the legality of the advice Johnson gave Queen Elizabeth II to suspend parliament for five weeks until October 14, after two lower courts made conflicting rulings. Oil prices held firm around $64 a barrel. Gold has settled slightly below the $1500 handle.

In corporate news this morning:

Diageo announced in their trading statement that they expect organic net sales growth to be towards the midpoint of 4%-6% range and operating profit to grow 1% ahead of organic net sales. They expect to meet its full-year sales targets.

 

GKP confirms that a gross payment of $14.1m ($11m net to GKP) has been received from the Kurdistan regional government for Shaikan crude oil sales during 2019.  

 

IG Group has announced that its Chairman, Andy Green will step down after today’s AGM. 

 

Just Group announce that David Richardson has been appointed to the role of CEO with immediate effect.

 

Kier Group has announced that its Chairman, Philip Cox will step down from the board once a successor has been appointed. They experienced a difficult year, with disappointing financial performance, as they announced their FY2019 results was an operating loss of £217m.

Next reported H1 2019 profit +2.7% to £319.6m (2018: £311.1m) as robust online sales more than offset a decline at its stores. They also maintained their full-year guidance for 2019.
