Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open -55 points this morning at 7383.  The UK 100 looks set to follow global markets lower this morning, following a fresh sell off on Wall Street yesterday.  The Dow Jones saw a four-figure fall, dropping 3.5% to 31,490 and the S&P was down 4% at 3,923.  As tech stock tumbled the Nasdaq shed another 4.7% to 11,418 and the small-cap Russell 2000 index gave up 3.5% to 1,774.  In Asia this morning, Japan’s Nikkei was 1.74% lower and Hong Kong’s Heng Seng was softer still losing 2.69% to 20,088. The Shanghai Composite dipped 0.38% to 3,074.

Company News:

EasyJet reports a H1 pretax loss of £557m, narrowing from £645m YoY. Their H1 revenue came in at £1.5bn, up from £240m YoY.

 

 

IAG orders 25 737-8200, 25 737-10 jets, plus 100 options from Boeing.

 

 

National Grid report that their FY22 pretax profit came in at £3.44bn, up from £1.66bn last year. They have increased their dividend to 50.97p per share. Outlook for the five-year period 2020/21 to 2025/26 is unchanged, as they expect earnings for 2022/23 to be broadly flat.

 

 

Royal Mail's FY22 pretax profit fell 8.8% YoY to £662m from £726m, as they expect their FY23 operating profit to be between 370-410m euros.
