Markets Overview:

UK Index called up 40 points at 7534. We saw Asian indices gain (+1-2%), on optimism that the Fed will move for a more aggressive policy later this month. Bets are being placed on a half basis point cut. Oil spiked yesterday, as news that Iran had seized a small oil tanker broke through. Oil still remains for its biggest weekly decline since May despite reassuring data from the US and China. Brent trading at $62.90, WTI at $55.90. Gold retreated slightly to $1441.

 

In corporate news this morning:

RBS CEO Ross McEwan named CEO of National Australia Bank. Will stay at RBS until replacement appointed.

British Land have announced the first interim payment for Q2 2019 will be 7.98p, +3% on Q2 2018. 

Acacia mining and Barrick Gold have reached an 232p/share agreement on the terms of an offer by Barrick for the ordinary share capital of Acacia that Barrick doesn’t already own.

CMA finds competition concerns in proposed Liqui-Box and DS Smith merger

Close Brothers performs well in 11 months to June 30; loan book +5.1%.

Strategic European to buy 6.8M Aston Martin shares for £10 each

Big Yellow Group Q1 2020 revenues +3.7%; Occupancy, rates up

Highland Gold Mining Q2 output flat, backs FY guidance
