Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open+48 points at 7431; - Stocks in Asia rose along with U.S. and European equity futures on signs China may be planning to offer more support to the economy reeling from the virus-induced slowdown. Oil advanced. A gauge of Chinese companies trading in Hong Kong rose about 1%, with China reported to be mulling options including cash injections and mergers for the nation’s airlines.  The Nikkei rose 206 points (0.9%) to trade at 23,400.  The Hang Seng rose 108 points (0.4%) to trade at 27,638 & the Chinese CSI fell slightly having seen early gains, but only by 6 points (0.15%) to trade at 4,051.  It was a mixed trading session in the U.S as markets reopened following Mondays Presidents day bank holiday break.  The Dow Jones fell 165 points (0.56%) to close at 29,232, the S&P 500 saw modest losses, closing down just 10 points (0.29%) to close at 3,370 & the Nasdaq modestly added 1 point (0.01%) to close at 9,732.  Oil jumped up to $58 per barrel overnight & gold rose above $1600 to trade at $1604.

 

In corporate news this morning:

 

Hochschild Mining reported a +7% increase in Revenue, FY EBITDA +28% and FY profit before tax +100% at $76.8m. Final dividend +19% at 2.335 cents. They see their 2020 attributable production target of 442,000 Gold equivalent.

 

IAG state that Qatar Airways group have increased their holdings to 25.1%, buying another stake in the company worth $600m.

 

Metro Bank have announced the appointment of Dan Frumkin as their CEO.

 

Moneysupermarket.com Group announce that Mark Lewis will step down as CEO.
