Markets Overview:

 

The UK 100 is called to open +48 points this morning at 7207.  The UK 100 looks set to make a positive start to the trading week buoyed by the performance of Asia’s main markets and Wall Street’s positive close after hours on Friday.  The Dow Jones popped 658.09 points, or 2.15%, to settle at 31,288.26. The S&P jumped 1.92% to 3,863.16, and the Nasdaq bounced 1.79% to 11,452.42.  Despite Friday’s rally, all the major averages closed out the week with losses. The Dow slipped close to 0.2% while the S&P and Nasdaq fell 0.9% and nearly 1.6%, respectively. The session’s moves left the S&P 500 roughly 19% off its highs.

Company News:

Deliveroo report that their H1 gross transaction value +7% YoY to £3.56bn. They have lowered their FY gross transaction value growth to 4-12% from 15-25% as they maintain their adjusted EBITDA margin guidance.

 

 

Direct Line Insurance says they are revising their 2022 operating ratio target range to around 96-98% as they estimate that 2022 overall motor claims severity inflation of about 10%. They expect their operating expenses to have reduced to between £690-700m as they target operating expenses in the region of £670m by 2023.

 

 

EasyJet & Ryanair cancel flights due to strike at Italian airports.

 

 

GlaxoSmithKline completes the demerger of their consumer healthcare arm to for Haleon Group.

 

 

Johnson Matthey announce they are to build an £80m plant in Royston, UK to make hydrogen fuel cell components.

 

 

WPP buys ecommerce agency Corebiz for an undisclosed sum.
