Markets Overview:

UK 100 called to open -15 points this morning at 6536.  The UK blue chip index looks set to fall slightly on the open today after losing ground late in yesterday’s session as the Brexit trade deal again dominated talk.  Sterling has rallied sharply as hopes grew of a deal, which has had the effect of pushing share prices down because so much of the index’s earnings are in dollars. Government bonds also fell as traders moved to price in a deal.  US indices broke all time highs yesterday with the Dow Jones average rising 149 points to 30,303, the S&P 500 climbing 21 points to 3,722 and the Nasdaq gaining 107 points at 12,765.  Asian markets were weaker overnight however, with Japan’s Nikkei down 38 points at 26,769 and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index 255 points lower at 26,423.

Company News:

Halma sells Fiberguide Industries to Molex for a cash consideration of $38m.

Mulberry: Frasers group have announced that they do not intend to make an offer for Mulberry.

Restaurant Group says tiering restrictions make Q1 outlook extremely challenging. However, they expect a strong recovery when there is a return to more normal levels of customer activity.
