Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open flat this morning at 7351. The UK 100 looks set to open flat today ahead of the chancellor taking centre stage as he delivers his autumn statement which is expected to contain a number of tax increases and spending cuts.  This follows US markets ending the day the wrong side of the line with all three major indices ending in negative territory.  At the close the Dow Jones was down 39 points, or 0.12%, to 33,554, the S&P fell 33 points, or 0.83%, to 3,959, and the Nasdaq dipped 174 points, or 1.54%, to 11,184.

 

 

Company News & Broker Comments:

Company News:

Burberry report that their quarterly comparable store sales rose 11%, significantly faster than its prior quarter and beating a company supplied consensus of 8% growth. The quarterly performance lifted H1 revenue to £1.35bn, up 5% and just ahead of forecasts, while operating profit rose 6% to £238m.

 

 

Crest Nicholson expects their FY22 adjusted pretax profit to be between £135-140m. They have completed a new £250m revolving credit facility to expire in Oct 2026.

 

 

Flutter sees revenue at its U.S. Fanduel business jumping 4.5-5 times to around $15bn over the long-run.

 

 

Halma report that their H1 adjusted pretax profit came in at £171.7m, up 11% from £154.9m YoY.

 

 

International Distribution Services (Royal Mail’s parent company) reported a H1 loss of £57m as higher costs and disruptions arising from strikes by its postal workers put a strain on its finances. They still expect their FY adjusted operating loss for their UK business to be around £350-450m.

 

 

Investec reports that their H1 pretax profit soared to £506.8m (2021: £266.3m) as their Funds Under Management (FUM) decreased 7.6% to £59bn (2021: £63.8bn).
