Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open -24 points at 7,724. UK 100 is set to open lower on Wednesday as negotiations over the US debt ceiling make little headway. In the US Wall Street ended mixed on Tuesday with Dow closing -1.0%, S&P -0.6% and Nasdaq +0.2%. In Asia the Nikkei closed +0.8% after reaching a 33-year high, Shanghai -0.6% and Hong Kong -1.1%.

AstraZeneca says Tagrisso plus chemotherapy is effective vs EGFR-mutate advanced lung cancer.

 

Anglo American says De Beers 4th sales cycle sales value is $480m, down from $604m YoY. They state that sales have been hurt by economic uncertainty, slow China recovery.

 

British Land reported a drop in its property valuations, as elevated levels of interest rates and broader economic worries dented sentiment in the commercial real estate sector.

 

Experian reports that they expect their annual organic revenue to grow between 4-6% on the back of steady demand from businesses and consumers. They posted organic revenue growth of 7% for the year ended March 31st.

 

JD Sports Fashion expect their profit to exceed £1bn for the first time this year as its offer of trainers, joggers and hoodies continue to chime with young shoppers. They reported a profit before tax for the year ended Jan 28th of £991.4m, a record result that was ahead of guidance and up from £947.2m in 2021/22. For 2023/24 they have forecast £1.03bn, in line with current average consensus expectations.

 

Mitchells & Butlers state they are optimistic for the future due to strong trading.

 

Sage Group have upgraded their FY organic recurring revenue growth forecast to around 11% after a strong H1. They had previously expected growth to be above the 9% level achieved in its last financial year.

 

Watches of Switzerland reports FY revenue of £1,543m.
