Markets Overview:

The UK 100 called to open +29 points at 7900.  The UK 100 is expected to make a bright start to the week heading back towards the 7,900 mark taking encouragement from a positive set of earnings from a number of leading US banks, results from JPMorgan, Citi and Wells Fargo went some way to reassure investors that the turmoil caused by the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank had not damaged the sectors performance.  Asian markets had a positive start to the week, the Nikkei 225 index was up 0.1%. In China, the Shanghai Composite was up 1.2%, while the Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 0.8%.  On Friday, Wall Street ended the final session of the week lower, with the Dow Jones down 0.4%, the S&P 500 down 0.2% and the Nasdaq Composite down 0.4%.

BHP Group: An Australian court has approved BHP’s 100% acquisition of OZL.

 

 

John Wood agrees to extend the put-up-or-shut-up deadline for Apollo offer to May 17th.

 

 

Qinetiq expects their FY results to March 31st to be ahead of its expectations.

 

 

S4 Capital Chair Martin Sorrell is to continue to work “as normal” despite medical treatment.
