Markets Overview:

The UK 100 is called to open -2 points this morning at 7367.  The UK 100 is expected to open marginally lower this morning following UK inflation data reading at a 40 year high this driven in part by rising energy prices.  Geopolitical concerns may also have an impact following the news that a stray Russian missile had crossed into Poland killing two people.  On Wall Street, at the close the Dow Jones was up 56 points, or 0.17%, to 33,592, the S&P rose 34 points, or 0.87%, to 3,992 and the Nasdaq jumped 162 points, or 1.45%, to 11,358.

Company News:

Beazley are planning an equity raise of roughly £385m to expand their cyber and speciality insurance businesses.

 

 

British Land turns to an interim pretax loss of £22m (2021: £373m profit) as interim revaluation of properties lost £189m (2021: £220m profit). They are proactively managing risk due to economic uncertainty as they have forecast cost inflation of 8-10% this year. They expect construction cost inflation to moderate to between 4-5% next year.

 

 

Deliveroo announces they are to end operations in Australia.

 

 

Experian report a H1 FY23 pretax profit of $517m, down 21% YoY from $654m. They declare an interim dividend of 17 cents per share as they back their FY expectations. They expect total revenue growth of between 8-10% with modest margin accretion.

 

 

SSE swings to an interim pretax loss of £511m (2021: £1.69bn profit) as cost of sales balloon to £6.13bn, up from £1.19bn YoY. They expect an adjusted EPS for FY23 of at least 120p, as they propose an interim dividend of 29p per share (2021: 25.5p per share). They are on course to report “record” FY23 capex of £2.5bn including acquisitions.

 

 

Sage Group report an FY underlying pretax profit of £346m (2021: £333m profit) as they hike their FY dividend by 4%. They expect their operating margins to trend upwards in FY23, as they predict that their FY23 organic recurring revenue growth will be ahead of FY22 due to cloud offering.
