Markets Overview:

 

UK 100 called to open +151 points this morning at 6210. What a difference 24 hours make. The sour start to the week has turned into a joyous start to Tuesday morning. Global indices rallied overnight as risk was definitely back on. The FED started its Main Street Lending programme (buying corporate bonds), which completely reversed losses into heavy gains. This, coupled with easing fears of a second wave of coronavirus infections, gave investors something to cheer about. Asia rallied hard, whilst European futures point to a triple digit gain on the open. Oil prices gained stability and finished with Brent up 0.2% at $39.78 and WTI up 0.2% at $37.18.

 

Company News:

Ashtead report resilient Q4 2020 trading performance during the COVID-19 pandemic with revenue +9%, operating profit of £1,224m (2019: £1,213m) and pre-tax profit of £1,061m. Proposed final dividend of 33.5p, totaling 40.65p for the FY.

 

British Airways is fighting for its survival and has acted lawfully acorrding to its CEO Willie Walsh.

 

Cineworld announce that their cinemas are to reopen in July.

 

Greggs announce that they plan to re-open around 800 shops to takeaway customers from Thursday 18th June.

 

LSE will not offer concessions to EU antitrust regulators reviewing its $27bn bid for Refinitiv.

 

Rio Tinto has no plans to take full control of its Canadian Arctic diamond mine, which faces closure and will cost hundreds of millions of dollars to clean up, court documents show.
